It is suicide, domestic violence, police brutality, mass shootings, gang violence, and local shootings. There is the *seemingly* easy task of regulating who has guns to preclude these things. (Provided nosotros show upwardly at the polls and vote.) Then there is the harder job of preventing someone from wanting to hurt someone else. This was astonishing to read and I'chiliad so grateful for, not merely the kids of Marjory Stone Douglas and everything they've done up to this indicate, but how they make sure to shine the calorie-free on others who have not received the aforementioned amount of media attention.

This was amazing to read and I'k then grateful for, not only the kids of Marjory Rock Douglas and everything they've done upwards to this bespeak, but how they brand sure to shine the lite on others who have not received the same amount of media attention.

This book functions half memoir and one-half manifesto for who David and Lauren Hogg are as people and how they each reacted to the Parkland, Florida shooting in different ways. I loved how aboveboard this book is - it near reads more than like a web log mail that the siblings accept written up together. They, and their friends, are all conspicuously very intelligent, critical thinkers with an astonishing corporeality of snark for NRA-lobbyists who call back to advise otherwise. The other fantastic aspect of their writing this book, is that they fully admit white privilege, classism, and different factors that take allowed them to gain so much media attending while others who take argued the aforementioned, practice not.

Information technology gives background, only also provides a lot of encouragement, the concluding affiliate being a xi step manifesto for countering "learned helplessness." It's a difficult book to read considering, in a manner, information technology's nevertheless unbelievable that this is the earth we live in (in relation to gun violence, not even going into what'south happening at the edge, or constabulary brutality!), simply information technology IS.

Definitely a must-read for literally every unmarried human being, just particularly Americans. I've been abnegation from rating books, merely since it seems that this book has been targeted by a small number of people who are obviously NRA-toads, I made an exception.

This is perhaps my most offensive review yet (stiff language (which is now uncensored in my reviews), political incorrectness, offensive sense of humour) and so reader discretion advised.

Also, if you wish to see my views on gun control more closely run across my review for some other book on the subject here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/testify...

What's it near?
David and Lauren Hogg talk about the things they experienced in the Parkland shooting and why gun rights are horrible.

Why not 1 star?
Lauren explains what information technology was like for her on the mean solar day of the shooting, that part was interesting and very well written so I'll give this book that.

Cons:
This book is for the most part horribly written. Not only does it have a few general flaws in the writing now and so only it's often like reading a poorly done news broadcast (example: "I'll accept Lauren do this function." (Lauren writes a bit) "Back to you, David" (not worded that way just that kind of thing)).
This book is full of and then much boring filler that has Aught to do with what this volume is near.
This part might be a scrap of a nitpick simply a lot of the times if a number "1" is shown it looks similar an upper case "I" (not a directly line blazon of upper instance "I" just the other kind, I know it gets confusing). Similar I said, it's a nitpick only it drove me nuts the unabridged time.
The political commentary is so poorly written. I don't just say this being someone who dislikes gun control only for example, a lot of this book does this matter of talking well-nigh something entirely different than of a sudden, for no reason, time to talk shit about Trump. I don't intendance if you're a Trump supporter or not, that is awful writing.
David is such a fucking hypocrite (now Seether's stuck in my caput). A skillful case is when he talks about respecting gun owners and gun rights when a big part of this book is promoting March For Our Lives which is against gun rights and so he continues to talk shit almost gun rights supporters (this obviously includes nigh gun owners). Like I said, hypocritical.
The last affiliate of this book pissed me off big fourth dimension. In that location's a list of people involved in various shootings, people that this volume says we should never forget which makes sense but those lists include the names of the shooters. A big reason these things happen is murderers wanting fame so putting their name in this volume and proverb that they should always exist remembered is fucked upwardly. On the off chance that David and/or Lauren Hogg ever see this review I would like to say this: if you lot really give a fuck nigh stopping violence, maybe don't give murderous cunts the publicity they seek.
David Hogg reveals a plan on how to cease gun violence and it's so flawed that in order to explain how flawed I'd have to write a whole special section in this review called something like...

Why David's gun law ideas suck:
Funding for gun violence research- OK, this thought doesn't hateful too bad I suppose however a lot of people would get mad because gun violence research that is already washed show that more gun laws make things worse.
Digitalization of ATF records- Am I really meant to believe that a government organization like the ATF does all their shit on pen and paper? Come on.
Universal groundwork checks- Well, purchasing a gun requires a lot of background checking as it is most of the time so...
Ban high chapters magazines- First of all, it would not save lives like this volume claims. Second, depending on your reload speed this wouldn't do a damn affair. Some people take a practiced x minutes to reload their AR-15 while others can fire, reload and showtime firing once more with their lever action that doesn't even have a magazine.
Assault weapons ban- First of all, "set on weapon" is a bullshit term that anti-gun people made upwardly. Second, the 2nd amendment is and then people take the correct to bear ANY artillery so the fact that that any gun is illegal is crap. Third, it's there so gun owners can ascension up if the government becomes tyrannical (to quote the Declaration of Independence "whenever any class of government becomes subversive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new regime").
Funding for intervention programs- Well, society as a whole tends to discourage IRL violence so...
Red flag laws- Owning a gun is a correct, non a privilege so nobody should ever take their gun taken.
Blocking people with a history of domestic violence- As fucked upward as it may seem, the previous statement applies for that too. Likewise, in that location'south a lot of laws that are meant to practise this now.
A federal solution to stop gun trafficking- Gun trafficking is illegal and the government usually tries to make sure illegal stuff doesn't happen.
Safe storage laws- Anyone with mutual sense knows to proceed their gun is a safety place. Sure, there's some who don't do this stuff properly simply I know a lot of gun owners and all of them make sure their guns are kept somewhere safe.

Overall:
This volume is stupid as hell. If it weren't for the one short fleck that was well written in chapter one, this would be getting a one star review from me. This book is a mess of bad writing and flawed politics.
Would I want to read a book equally awful every bit this one? #NeverAgain

The book is well washed, and the teens do a blindside up chore narrating the audiobook. I hope that, as David says, we adults tin can observe some effective solutions to this horrible trouble. Although, I'll admit, I think enough of kids getting involved is vital to the success of the #neveragain movement.

This book is "piddling" in length merely. It is much "larger" than I had imagined. In #NeverAgain, big young people who continue to deal with the impact of a mass murder tell their story -- and tell it well -- of course. Because they know that it must not be forgotten. The big work that the authors/activists are doing should inspire us all to work to make a slogan into a reality.

This book was powerful and had some important discussions. The writing was very straight forward and you can actually feel pathos for the lives that were lost. This is a non-fiction story about David and Lauren Hogg who are both survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High Schoolhouse shooting in Parkland Florida. On Feb 14, 2018, many lives were lost in a school shooting in Florida. This book gives both the survivor'due south perspectives and their personal feel when the shooting was going on. They also have done a significant amount of campaigning since, which is as well discussed.

I think this book was really interesting and informative. For a very small book, this definately achieves what it is supposed to. I am certain there are more non-fiction books about Parkland that become into greater depth nearly the shooting in more length. Overall this book was informative and is extremely important for people to read. Especially if you live in America this would be such an important book to read to get together some more insight into school shootings. This book also did hash out some political topics and gun laws. I personally appreciated the sections well-nigh their perspectives during the shootings and the background to that. Though talking near the guns laws is important it is likewise very controversial. So depending on if you want to read a chip about that or non, just know it is in that location slightly.

All throughout this volume this immature man seemed very narcissistic. I could inappreciably tummy it. To some extent with teens it'south normal, teens dearest to tell you what they're excited about, and how good they are at things. Just this was certainly at a deeper and disturbing level. It'southward articulate that our school systems are churning out activist who can march, chant and get emotional, but not Americans who can think and reason.

It's no wonder this child and his crew went immediately to politics. They've been trained to be like this. Attacking an organization (the NRA) that had zilch to with the evil incident that took identify in his school. Mr. Hogg did this considering he's been trained to do so. Every bit he talks about prior to the shooting they had been discussing the NRA in class and how "powerful" information technology is. (no doubt a leftist teacher only shared a one sided view)

Information technology seems foreign to me that in that location has never been whatsoever anger towards anyone just the NRA. No anger at the adults/agencies in his ain community that failed them both before that day and on that tragic day.

I was also amazed that this kid only learned in school that the 2nd amendment practical to the formation of militias. He certainly hasn't read the founding fathers own words on the topic of gun ownership. Hogg talked virtually his experience with Emma K. and how they discussed how you should love those who are different from you lot, but he seems to not exercise what he preaches one bit. Every bit leaders would reach out to the young homo and he'd have nothing to do with them. Instead of trying to piece of work with politicians he only demonized them. He seems to talk of beloved, but God prevent if you don't completely agree with leftist only solutions.

Much of the content simply didn't seem genuine. Like he added details into his thinking that didn't really be on that day. But my impression. Likewise I'1000 but not shocked by his worldview. It's exactly what I would expect from a kiddo who'south been trained by liberal teachers and consumed liberal talking points from Vox, Vice, John Oliver etc. (as he mentions them is this book)

I'm just not shocked that he's come to the conclusions he'southward come to. Nor how he treats others on the other side of the issues. He's only as rigid every bit anyone he criticizes. But I think at this point in his life he's to in love with himself to find.

I give this a one star considering most of the content was rubbish. Near the terminate he had a few expert ideas for how to solve some issues. But that's about it. Given his unwillingness to receive olive branches or offer them those few productive ideas will never carry fruit. Also his sister writes in this booklet likewise and you really do get an idea of how emotional and scary an incident similar this can be to a teen. (or really anyone)

I read this in the spirit of understanding. Equally I've really been turned off by him and his crew since the CNN "town hall." Every bit the teens seemed incredibly coached with talking points. I do remember adults have influenced these kids to say some of the things they've said. Because afterwards all you tin't question them or offer a rebuttal because they're just kids right? While he has my sympathy for existence office of an awful event, he doesn't have my understanding for his deportment following the event.

No, what really started to sit down badly with me was how effortlessly his rhetoric switched to and fro between "We're merely kids, it'south not fair to await us to be perfectly versed in the nuances of gun control" and "Just because I'thou a child doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking most."
I know that personally, starting February 15th, I practically lived in my school library reading every book on guns, gun command, the 2d amendment, states' rights etc. and using up all my data looking up school policies, my rights as a minor, and how to organize a protest. I snuck out of my theatre course every day for nearly an entire semester doing this, and probably the virtually important matter I learned was that there was no simple reply to any of this, at to the lowest degree none that a kid about to flunk out of loftier-school theatre was gonna be able to figure out.
And yet there was David Hogg on CNN talking about how elementary all this was and how he'd figured it all out from watching John Oliver and Vice News.

Which brings me back to my main complaint virtually the actual book: equally an actual teen actually trying to proceeds an insight into what I should be doing to assist prevent school shootings, I have cypher involvement in the Telly habits of a bluntly unlikable, pretentious kid the likes of whom comes a dime a dozen in any public high schoolhouse AP Govt. course. That's what this book is: a for-profit booklet with a ridiculously disproportionate ratio of pages devoted to what political shows are adept, what D. Hogg watched on TV before the assail, what he watched on Television the day of the set on, what he watched in TV later the attck, how much BBC One he and his friends watched together and based their policy on, etc.

If you feel like reading this book, at least go it from the library. Spend the money y'all'd pay for information technology on a donation to Sandy Hook hope.

That the profits of this book get to supporting the March for our Lives movement is really the best thing that I tin say about information technology.

As a story about the making of a movement, it's okay. It'll exist great background enquiry at some time to come date when Hogg, Gonzalez, Kasky or some other one of these young people has changed the world.

As a story about the making of a movement, it'southward okay. It'll be slap-up background research at some hereafter date when Hogg, Gonzalez, Kasky or another one of these immature people has inverse the world.

But that'south also what bothers me a niggling scrap about information technology. I am all for someone telling their truth and admitting to their past mistakes, only David Hogg seems to be preemptively confessing his sins so that there are no skeletons left to uncover when he runs for function. And honestly, nosotros were all assholes when we were in junior high - but there's something about an 18 yr erstwhile admitting that he was a self ass when he was "younger" that just doesn't feel quite necessary. Child, y'all have a lot more mistakes to brand - don't put so much pressure level on yourself to think that stupid, immature mistakes are in your past.

Every bit a teacher, I found the vocalisation of David and Lauren honest and mature. I am proud to know that there are teens that have the passion and the free energy to forge a path of alter.

In the back of the book is a list of mass shootings in educational institutions commencement in 1999 with Columbine. There is a list of those lost and it is center-breaking.

A quick, powerful, important read. No one should have to become through what those kids did in February and that fact that mass shootings continue to happen is beyond reprehensible. These high school students give me hope that meaningful change is possible.

Put your politics away and read this curt book past two of the survivors of the Parkland shooting and organizers for March for Our Lives (All proceeds from the book get to that organisation).
The book starts by giving some groundwork on the Hogg's lives. Their story is fairly well-known: they are white middle-grade children of an FBI amanuensis and teacher who establish in Parkland an first-class school system. As a outcome, David and Lauren are mature, intelligent children, pretty normal, with the usual teenage introspection and foibles. Feb 14th changed their lives forever.
I was impressed past their ability to lay out facts and their utilize of social media. David talks about it hither: "we are growing up in a time when technology gives usa the confidence to assume that nosotros can do things and figure out the world in means that it hasn't been figured out before." They are honest enough to talk nigh the privilege they have, better teachers, equipment, a variety of classes, etc that take enabled them to speak out in a style others from less advantaged backgrounds often tin can't.
They are non gratuitous in writing well-nigh the shooting itself, just there are moments that just grab your centre: Lauren speaking of the 4 friends she lost or this quote from when her mom took her to counseling, "I withal began to tell my story, which was hard plenty, merely harder still was sitting in that chair and watching the therapists weeping." The terminal department of the book is pages and pages list the many schoolhouse shooting victims since Columbine.
They lay out a common-sense 10 point strategy that respects both gun owners and the inherent right of people to live. Their parents must be and then proud of them all, not simply David and Lauren, but all the rest who are working to make a deviation. Equally it says in the book, they are learning to alter the world by presuming that they can.

The stories near the friends who were taken from them will break your centre. The concluding chapter listing the victims of schoolhouse shootings since Columbine is hard to read, peculiarly the section most Sandy Hook.

The volume presents unproblematic and reasonable proposals to address the gun violence epidemic. Earlier you write off March for Our Lives as a ploy to take everyone'due south guns away, give the proposals a fair reading. They preserve gun rights and uphold the Second Amendment while keeping weapons abroad from unsafe individuals and protecting public rubber.

#NeverAgain was written by ii teenagers who were forced to become wise beyond their years. They write with an awareness of themselves, the problems they are tackling, and the larger social issues that exacerbate the problem. Regardless of your position on the outcome, this timely and crucial book is worth reading.
